Star Wars: Galactic Racer Review

Star Wars: Galactic Racer takes the classic Star Wars podracing formula, cranks the speed to absolutely stupid levels, and then throws a bunch of fresh ideas into the cockpit. Yeah, it looks freaking fantastic, but this isn’t just the old Racer games wearing a shiny 4K jacket. You’ve got multiple customizable vehicle classes, planets you can actually jump out and explore in third-person, and a roguelite-style campaign that makes every run feel like there’s something on the line. And when you slam into the competition, blow stuff up, and rocket through ridiculous tracks, you can definitely feel the DNA of arcade legends like Burnout and MotorStorm.

The biggest problem is that the campaign can start feeling repetitive after a while, especially when you’re constantly revisiting the same handful of planets. And come on, this is a game rooted in the golden age of couch multiplayer, so the lack of split-screen is a pretty brutal miss. Still, Galactic Racer is an impressive first outing from Fuse Games and, honestly, it’s freaking awesome to see this long-dormant corner of the Star Wars universe back on the starting grid. Fire up the engines, hit the nitrous, and hold onto your freaking helmet!
